Freak Comics 4

As you can clearly see, the new Freak Comics design has finally been implemented. What does this mean for you, the loyal reader? A more aesthetically pleasing environment for you to view the same great articles.

Unfortunetly this new design needs a small amount of work. This is because it handles images differently (better) than the previous designs. There have been lots of posts all using the old image structure system, and each post must be updated. This means that when you read certain articles, you may notice a glitch or two. Not to worry though, these should all be worked out tomorrow and you’ll be reading all of your favorite articles once more.

With this new design comes a slight change in format: no more Wednesday Release list. I have decided to forgo the posting of this list since the same information can readily be found elsewhere on the internet. This should be a welcome change to you, the reader, being that it will free up more time for myself to write quality content, rather than use up that time on a boring list.

Sketchman #8: Sketchman vs. The Flu Virus

In Sketchman #8: Sketchman vs. The Flu Virus I prove that I can make the series outdo itself in the way of horrible story telling and bad jokes! How? Bathroom humor of course.

Death, Jr.

The world is currently obsessed with death. Everywhere I look lately I’m staring it in the face. I look up at the hutch that sits atop my desk and there are the first three volumes of The Walking Dead. I look at my DVD collection and there sits Night of the Living Dead and Nasforatu. Just this morning I received an email from Image comics, it was a press release announcing a forthcoming Death, Jr. trade paperback.
Ten minutes ago I returned to my home after seeing Corpse Bride.
The list could go on: Dawn of the Dead, The Ring (1 and 2), The Grudge, and many more television shows, movies and comics are centered around the general subject of death.

Sketchman #7: Sketchman vs. the Checkered Thing

Have you ever created something so bad that you were embarrassed to look at it? Then you realized that this thing was so embarrassing that you needed to share it with the world? That’s how I feel about the Sketchman comics I made years ago. Spelling, grammar, art and a good story are just a few of the things that Sketchman does not feature.

False advertising in comics

Helen of Toy

False or exaggerated advertising was rampant in the comic books of yesteryear. Many of these ads were for cheap toys that were meant to make a child’s dreams come true. Some were said to give you strange powers, while still others could help you see through walls… and clothing.

Why were these advertisements allowed to be printed? Did the FTC (Federal Trade Commission) just turn a blind eye?
Well first off, let’s take a brief look at some of the policies of the FTC.

This time I’ve added two new companies in to the mix, namely Vertigo and Wildstorm. These are actually subsidiaries of DC, but who’s counting?

Image comics updates their site

imagecomics.com

Swing on by the Image Comics website and you’ll be greeted by the following message:

ImageComics.com is currently down so it can be safely updated, we apologize for the inconvenience.
The site will return soon with an all new design and features, stay tuned!

The website has been down since at least yesterday morning. Instead of speculating on why the site is down, I asked Jim Demonakos, PR & Marketing Coordinator for Image Comics.

It’s one of those things where we took the website down to move the entire new website on, then ran in to problems, so instead of restoring the old site, which would’ve taken some time, we decided to just keep the site down and we’ll re-launch it in about a week and a half.

I’m assuming that their old site didn’t generate much revenue or traffic because leaving it down for a week and a half would be potentially devastating otherwise.

The bright side of this is a new site for Image and some weeks ago Jim Demonakos told me that the new site will display their latest releases… finally!

I asked Jim for a preview of the new site, but the request was unfortunately shut down. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.
