Swing on by the Image Comics website and you’ll be greeted by the following message:

ImageComics.com is currently down so it can be safely updated, we apologize for the inconvenience.
The site will return soon with an all new design and features, stay tuned!

The website has been down since at least yesterday morning. Instead of speculating on why the site is down, I asked Jim Demonakos, PR & Marketing Coordinator for Image Comics.

It’s one of those things where we took the website down to move the entire new website on, then ran in to problems, so instead of restoring the old site, which would’ve taken some time, we decided to just keep the site down and we’ll re-launch it in about a week and a half.

I’m assuming that their old site didn’t generate much revenue or traffic because leaving it down for a week and a half would be potentially devastating otherwise.

The bright side of this is a new site for Image and some weeks ago Jim Demonakos told me that the new site will display their latest releases… finally!

I asked Jim for a preview of the new site, but the request was unfortunately shut down. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.

Freak Comics News
A short time ago I asked you guys whether or not I should keep posting news articles. A few people replied and said no. While I agree that having news posts in the main section of this site is rather dumb (this site is supposed to be all about original…

52 the Website
DC's ambitious year long project, 52 is five weeks deep in to the series. Thus far it's really interesting and a great read. If reading the series isn't enough for you, DC has set up the Daily Planet 52 Week Special, a website meant to look like the Daily Planet's news…

Freak Comics is slipping
Ok people, it's time for my semi-regular "I'm an idiot" confessional. I really do love writing for this site and don't intend to give it up. It's a really fun hobby and I feel like in some small way I provide entertainment and perhaps value for some people. Don't get me…

His response makes no sense at all. They were making the switch and messed up so it will take a week and a half to get it up? That’s just not right.

I was thinking the same thing. How could a week and a half sized mistake have slipped by the staff until the moment they were uploading? Very odd.

I think it’s more like they’re trying to generate interest in the site by leaving a large ugly splash screen up.

The comic industry is notoriously BEHIND the times when it comes to the web, still though, NOTHING could take so long, hell even designing a site from scratch, if you’ve got a dedicated team would be cobbled together faster than that.

I’m with Joe on this one, probably a drum interest in site thing.

I’m curious as to what they could be doing that caused so many problems. I’ve never been impressed with Image’s foray on the web, let’s hope their next iteration will turn some heads.

[...] At the beginning of September Image saw fit to remove their existing site and replace it with an ugly splash screen… for nearly two months! Today they finally released their new design and it’s… um… well it’s better than their last one. [...]
