Podcast

This podcast starts out with an argument between Bill and myself over his comments about the Power Cosmic. We also discuss several of our favorite comic book movies, and a few we don’t like.

Listen to the Freak Comics podcast: Movies (episode 2)

also from freak comics…

Podcast: No Beer (part 1)
I'm joined for yet another instalment of the Freak Comics podcast. This time Bill and I talk about the Incredible Hulk television show, an upcoming Superman festival (including Bill's experiences with a past festival for ol' supes) and of course lots of complaining about Marvel comics from myself. This time…

Freak Comics podcast: Power Cosmic
My friend Bill and I got together a couple of days ago and recorded our first podcast. I have to say, it turned out really well, but don't take my word for it, Listen for yourself. The entire show is a little over one hour in length but manages to…

Podcast: No Beer (part 2)
As usual, Bill has made an unfounded claim (remember the "you don't need to breath when you're unconscious" comments?). This time he's claiming that Ice Man is the most popular X-Men character. He thinks this is due to the fact that Ice Man was not only and X-Man, but also…

uggh, since Bill had to question my credentials, here you go, i recently dug this out of the archives in my basement (and by archives i mean an old, green, plastic box i keep my comics in) the comic in question is called “THE INFINITY CRUSADE” Vol. 1, No. 5, Oct., 1993.
First page of the comic features the Hulk (full page illustration) in outer space above the planet “Paradise Omega” wearing a pack on his back with a hose connected to a mask over his mouth and nose. Later in the comic Hulk remarks: “gravity’s pulling me steadily toward paradise omega and there goes my last gulp of air. better savor it. no telling when i’ll get another. if ever.” Thereby conclusively, without question, without a shadow of a doubt, i’ll murder you in cold blood if you bring it up again, showing the Hulk’s dire need for good ol’ Oxygen. So drop it.

Now concerning things from this new podcast. I had mixed feelings over the new Batman. I too, highly enjoyed the long sweeping history and training of Batman - that part was cool. I don’t like that stupid voice that Batman takes on when he is Batman. like the “Do I look like a cop!?” line - it makes me laugh but its trying to be serious. Its like when he is Batman he has to use his ‘big boy’ voice - which does make sense but only to a certain extent. I think my real problem was not the use of a deeper voice but with the fact that this actor’s deep voice just sounds way too ‘doctored’ to me. I did not mind the “tumbler” (the bat hummer) it made sense - along with the rest of Batman’s costume - i liked the military prototype idea. but i did think the getting sucked into the dash to fire a missle was very stupid - and also what happens to your legs when you go through that little ordeal? it seems they would get crushed in some sort of mechanised nightmare.
I didn’t know when i saw this movie in the theatre that they were re-writing the history of Batman and changing who killed his parents so i was turned off by the change of the Joker’s part bu i have since come to terms with it. I definitely liked this movie more when i rented and watched it for the second time as opposed to my first encounter in the theatre. Which is strange because when i don’t like something in the theatre i usually hate it so much more if i watch it on video. anyways “Joe” i’ll use your big boy name (I noticed Bill made a slip-up in the podcast) i’ve gotta get in on the next podcast somehow so that i can combat Bill’s neverending stupidity when it comes to certain things - but i’m also not driving 6 hours to be there in person so we’ll have to figure something out.

Easy enough to get in on the podcast long distance, I’ll hit you up about that.

They didn’t change the history of who killed Batman’s parents. In the comic book the Joker didn’t kill Batman’s parents. It was changed for movies and TV to be more dramatic.

As for your first comments: I’ve never heard of the Infinity Crusade. I need to hunt it down.

dear god, kill me now. that is the very last one i’m doing, i can’t remember half of it and by listening to this i’m glad i don’t.

For some months now i’ve been watching re-runs of the Batman Adventures cartoon that used to be on Fox (i think) from the mid to late 90’s. Just so has it that the episode i just watched was called “Dreams of Darkness” original air date of 11/11/1998. This episode features the Scarecrow who is trying to poison the entire city’s water supply with a fear inducing gas…sound familiar? It gets better - the point of contamination is in the caverns beneath Arkham Asylum and Batman initially gets nailed with the dust and starts to hallucinate. This is pretty much exactly the plot to the new Batman Begins movie - at least the second half of it. It seems instead of coming up with a new plot or story of any kind they saw fit to rip-off a cartoon which was probably already ripping off an old Batman comic that i don’t know about - truly sad that you can make millions without thinking up anything new. But i must say, the Batman Adventures cartoon is really top drawer. I used to religiously watch it after school growing up and it is still worth it now that i’ve reached the ripe old age of 22.
